Applicants:
1. If you have not been through the approval process as a 'Writer' you are required to do any and all work toward approval. All of that work should be contained within at most two threads: one for poetry and one for stories. This means NO COMMENTS THREADS, no requests for literary review, and no guides.
2. You are required to show active interaction and intent to improve. This does not mean you have to take every single suggestion that you are given. However, you should actively be responding to suggestions and requests.
3. "It's not my style" is a valid objection to adopting change--if the concern is stylistic and if it is not used repeatedly. You should be able to state this coherently. If this is the only response you give to every suggestion, you will likely stand little chance of approval.
4. Do NOT get angry with those trying to help you. Suggestions are for your improvement. When people take the time to read your story, analyze your story, and then think up and type ways to make your story even better, it means they care about your improvement. Getting angry with people because they are making suggestions is pointless.
Editors/Mentors:
1. Give Constructive Criticism, not insults or pointless compliments. Neither insults nor pointless compliments help anyone improve.
Make sure your reply is constructive with the feedback. Whether expressing a like or dislike of the concept, include specifics on how they could improve things or describe what parts of the concept that you like/don't like. Useless replies WILL be deleted to help keep threads from getting too cluttered up as well as to prevent flame wars from starting. Approved Writers who ignore this rule do so at the risk of their Writer status.
2. Do not try to mold the user into a clone of yourself or your favorite author. Authors have many different styles and cover many different genres. You may make generalized suggestions on the author's style, but you should not be trying to clone yourself or your favorite authors. Try to have at least two different possible suggestions any time you make a stylistic suggestion.
3. Anyone may serve as an editor or mentor. You do not need to be an approved author. Some people have talents at editing and making suggestions but lack the time, inclination, or talent to be authors themselves. This is not at all uncommon in the real world either. However, if you are not an approved author or poet you may not make a solicitation thread. If you want to be an editor without ever becoming approved, you should PM an admin/moderator/board op about it.
4. Editors/Mentors may only have one thread to solicit authors to seek their help specifically. This thread should only contain such requests and not conversations. Any dialog and feedback should occur within an author's thread and not via any other method, including PM.
5. Editors/Mentors are very strongly encouraged to help others that do not even ask directly for their help
6. Editors/Mentors are very strongly encouraged to write guides to various topics that interest them.
Everyone:
1. When making any edits, you must post the revised version in a new post. This not only allows anyone helping you to see a progression in your work, but it allows you to have a record of how your own work has evolved, as well. If you are found to be editing your posts excessively and ignoring this rule, your thread will be locked and you may face repercussions.
2. If you are seen to be using this forum as a crutch or to bypass the approval system, your posts will be locked or deleted and you may be banned or restricted from Approved Poet and Approved Author status permanently.
3. Is to be treated with respect. Regardless of their status in this forum.
4. All rules of Comments & Criticism and the general Library rules apply, except the rule concerning Comments Threads. Advice should be posted in the editing thread directly. Not via the Library or PM.
